School Eco Council

Ysgol Maes y Coed’s School and Eco council is made up of representatives from each class within the school. We have a very active council that makes sure that pupils are kept at the centre of all that we aim to achieve at Ysgol Maes y Coed.

The Council makes important decisions on all aspects of school life such as influencing the school menu, improvements to the school building and outdoor areas as well as looking at how we can become more eco friendly in our day to day work. Council members also support the governing body by helping to interview new staff to the school.

Our Council aims to meet on a termly basis, though we can meet more regularly if needed. Our Pupil School & Eco Council leader feeds back to the Governing body and Headteacher about developments and changes we might like to make, our ongoing progress and future ideas. Our Council has recently been involved with Swansea Bay Health Board to redevelop the Children’s Rights Charter into an easier read version.

What’s next for the Council

Over the coming year we will be working on

· Redevelopment of the sensory garden and science garden.

· Developing Pupil Friendly policies and School Improvement plan.

· Working towards our Silver award for Rights Respecting Schools

· Working with the Junior Safeguarding board to develop pupil voice

· Reduction of waste across the school.
